Accounting Minor

What has been your experience with the classes involved in the accounting minor? I am particularly interested in the core upper div courses MGMT 131A/B 132.

Do these 3 courses give you a nice technical knowledge foundation for a summer internship with one of the big 4 acct firms?

I noticed most acctounting faculty are lecturers rather than professors. On one hand that seems like a plus since it means they are probably involved in industry and will prepare you to work a big 4 job but have you noticed a difference in lecture quality compared to your other mgmt courses (such as the courses involved in the merage core mgmt101-110).

Just thought I’d add an update to my original post now that I’ve completed the two intermediate courses 131a and 131b. So far the classes are pretty standardized and tend to follow the well known Kieso book for the most part.

Why all the craze over the accounting minor? I can’t tell you how many people were in the class that weren’t even minor students.

i dont know many details about the accounting minor, but a close friend of mine completed the minor and was able to get a job with a big 4 right after graduation.

my understanding is, after about 2 years after graduation, if you have a CPA and big 4 exp, thats all that matters.

i wish i could give you more info, but i’m not close to accounting. i think there’s an accounting club on campus you might want to talk to.

EDIT: I figure a large reason they’re arent professors teaching the accounting classes is there isn’t much research in straight accounting… you can’t be a graduate student and get your phd in accounting =p. but im not an accounting student, so maybe im wrong.
