Accounting Salary

Very basic question that seems like the answer is very obvious, but the salary for a lot of accounting majors is higher than advertised right? I mean, since a lot of accounting majors go into other fields and take other jobs, the general salary is higher than what the median accountants salary is, right?

Right?

Most accountants I know (I’m a CPA as is my H and S so between us we know a lot of people in the field) choose to start at Big 4 (or other public) accounting firms to fulfill the experience requirement needed to become a CPA and build their resume. Accountants then often jump off from the public accounting job in 2-6 years for a higher paying job in the private sector.
