First, your GPA from PSU will NOT transfer to Michigan. This is true for any transfer.

Second, if you want to get a top notch-hard to get job, it is your GPA that will be the most important factor and NOT whether you graduate from Michigan or PSU.

Third, I heard that Michigan is very tough and hard to get good grades. If that is the case, you are "insane" trying to tranfer there when you have a fabulous GPA at PSU. In addition, your freshmen GPA stays with you at PSU. It doesn't count in the overall GPA computation if you transfer. Thus, I say again, you will probably regret transferring.

The fact that my GPA wont transfer is definately a bummer, but I think from sophomore year on my GPA at PSU will go down anyway. There's no way I can maintain a 3.9 in my advanced level accounting classes. On the other hand, I think I will be able to maintain a 3.5 at Michigan, which is equivalent to a 3.8-3.9 GPA at Penn State in the amount of job opportunities I can get. Being above average or average at Michigan is equivalent to being at the top or near top at PSU. Plus, sometimes I feel that I'm not challenged enough and it feels weird to be one of the best in all my classes. Another thing that I dont like about Penn State is the intellecutal atmosphere. To be honest, most people could care less about their academics - partying starts on thursday nights (and quite often wednesday nights too) and continue until sunday nights. People are too busy with their social lives and it seems as if academics are everyone's 3rd priority. I'm sure there are lots of parties, drinking, etc at Michigan too. But at least the environment will be more intellectually stimulating and challenging.

Either way, I know I can't go wrong. If I stay at PSU and graduate amongst the top of my class, I will have great job opportunities. If I go to Michigan and perform above average, I'm sure I'll have lots of opportunities too. But personally, I feel that if I graduate from Michigan I will be more satisfied.

Thanks for your advice though. I haven't completely decided on Michigan yet and I'll need to sleep on this matter a bit more.

"There's no way I can maintain a 3.9 in my advanced level accounting classes".
So it seems like you think the ease of your classes will change at PSU - and that eventually- you will be challenged. If not, there are plenty of openings in honors courses, especially ones outside your major. MY s is in a history honors class this year - only about 20 students - very smart group with lots of discussion. If you stay at PSU, you need to seek out opportunities to get away from the "minimum to get by" element. There are plenty of amazing students there too!
But it really seems that you want Michigan. And I guess if you don't go for it - you may regret it later. If your parents are funding this - just go with your heart. If you need to take loans, it's a big decision - this is money you could use to help fund an MBA at a top school.
Good luck to you whatever your choice!
