Is there like a list of different accronyms because I usually get lost and have no idea what other people are saying? WHAT IS HADES?

It is an acronym created last year by someone who went to Hotchkiss. It stands for Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, Exeter and St. Pauls School.

In my opinion, it is an acronym best forgotten. Hades is the Greek god of hell, and Hades also describes hell. I don’t understand why intelligent and well-read applicants would aspire to HADES or describes their dream schools as hell.

I’m a fan of the acronym HEADS.

i like SHE GLAD M&M, although it’s rather long… (SPS, Hotchkiss, Exeter, Groton, L’Ville, Andover, Deerfield, Milton, Middlesex)

There are lots and lots of other great schools, though. It’s not limited to just HADES. There are schools that are more prestigious than a school in HADES, but it doesn’t make them necessarily better. : P

Agree with Burb Parent…The HADES acronym was created and perpetuated by a small group of kids on this site with a very narrow view of top tier boarding schools. It is particularly stupid. When acronyms are created that are meant to separate boarding schools by quality, it’s probably better that you don’t know what they mean, since they are meaningless.

Lol does it really matter that much…if something was meaningless there would be no need for negative comment really. And if there was need for comment hopefully we could come up with better words than “stupid”.

I don’t know who created it, but it was created to put top boarding schools into one acronym. I believe it does that, it secludes many other top boarding schools, yes, but completely stupid? Na I don’t think so.

I didn’t say completely stupid; it’s only particularly stupid. Completely stupid would be defending the HADES acronym. (Exclude, not “seclude”)

I think HADES is supposed to irony since they are the top schools, but hades is the greek god of the underworld.

The fact that you feel so strongly against a “particularly stupid” acronym makes me believe that you have something personal against the acronym. What school does your child attend?

If it was so stupid there would be no need for argument. The face that it’s only “particularly stupid” suggests that there’s a positive. Explain to me the positive that makes you feel that it’s not completely stupid, you know, since you felt it was so necessary to point that out. Seemed superfluous to me.

And for your information, the fact that I wasn’t completely trashing the acronym does not mean I was defending it. Take your time when reading my posts and try to comprehend it.
