2 of my friends went through accutane and 1 of my friends is going through it.

What I have noticed - dry lips (or should i say, peely lips), dry legs, dandruff, getting really sleepy all the time, dry skin (no concealors so face looks AWFUL), redish whitish paleish skin.

6months of pain they went through. and now they have perfect skin.. i feel so sorry for my friend who is on his 2nd month.. he looks so gross..

advice: If you discontinue use of Tropical creams, there's an 80% chance that you will get your pimples back..

I used Cetaphil for a while. It smells bad. And it did jack. Tea tree oils worked perfectly.. but my skin built resistance against the oil so it stopped working after 3 weeks. (but for 3 weeks, I had a smooth complexion)

My parents are totally against hormone changing things. No accutane for me but I don't have acne acne. I have.. couple of little pimples? It's going down now... i'm so thankful haha

Acutane worked well for me. The really extreme dryness that some people get is the consequence of taking too much. If you can find a dose that works for you then the side effects aren't all that bad in my experience. I would say go for it. It's the only thing guaranteed to work.

Accutane is for people with more severe (cystic) acne. I've heard liver damage is another side effect. As for Proactiv, it's good for oily/combo. skin, but definitely not for dry or sensitive. Proactiv does stop working for some ppl after a while, and if it happens to you, stop using it for 1-3 weeks, then continue. If your acne is mild and you only have a few blemishes, I would suggest getting facials twice a month or maybe once a week. Some Shiseido counter are giving complimentary facials (takes 45 minutes + free makeover)! They are great! If this still doesn't work, go to www.makeupalley.com and look for MUA Top Picks for skincare. Good luck!

For the amount of time one is on acutane it is fine for your liver, my doctor friend who is extremely cautious put both her kids on it. For my S it made a huge difference in his self esteem and social life to clear up his acne. My D too has never had to worry about her complexion since. Probably the worst side effect is from sun sensitivity so avoid doing it during sunbathing months.

Accutane is too expensive for me, but my friend who used to have severe cystic acne took it and he's had really clear skin for a while. I take the topical form of Accutane, which is Retin-A Micro. It works well enough for me.
