ACLU Summer Institute 2017

Hi! I recently stumbled across the ACLU Summer Institute page and the program looks super rewarding and interesting! I was just wondering: is it worthwhile? You have to pay for it, so I just wanted to make sure I would get something out of it. Also, is it hard to get in?

I cannot tell you how the experience will be, as I have not been yet, but I applied in mid February and received my acceptance email in early March. The wait is long but I did also receive a full scholarship despite not fully matching the rubric they have on the application. If you choose to apply, good luck!

I have a 4.4 gpa and lots of extra currics that deal with social justice and yesterday, i found out via email that I’d gotten into the program with a full scholarship (covering transportation, tuition, and housing). And im so excited to work with the ACLU this summer! Also, Ive heard nothing but good things about the program from other people. I do think they are selective, but they also want to see where and how you are an activist in your community so i dont think it’s just about your grades/test scores…if that makes sense.

Unfortunately my kid was rejected for ACLU Summer Institute despite active grassroots involvement coupled with institutional involvement in significant social justice issues in our community. Sounds like you will learn a lot and have a great experience. Be sure to post a review of your experience!
