ACT accommodations?

I have documented reading comprehension disorder, but the ACT has denied me extra time because I don’t recieve accommodations at school. The only reason why I don’t is because my school’s academic guidelines say, “We are a college preparatory high school that neither follows nor provides accommodations for IEP and/or 504B plans.”

My counselor says that she told the ACT this but it still got denied. I can still try to get extra time if I get evidence of accommodations at school, but there doesn’t seem to be a way with it being the school’s policy to deny me accommodations. The closest I do get to “accommodations” is holding me back in regular track math (the only thing I can do). I’m not even aloud to tell my teachers about my reading issue unless I need to and talk to my counselor first.

I’m just really stuck and don’t know what to do. I do have one teacher that just might be understanding since his wife and son haves ADHD. Even if he was understanding, how do I bring up the topic? Is there another way for me to still get ACT accommodations that I’m just not seeing?

Make sure that you have good documentation. After that, get a copy of that letter to ACT. You might include a statement from a school administrator affirming school policy.
