ACT essay score's worth

Hi, I just got back the results to the ACT from June 9. I had already taken the ACT before and got a 33 composite, 35 english and 7 essay score. I'm looking at the top schools, and a 33 would have been good enough. However, I deemed that a 7 essay score was terrible, so I took it again. I got a 34 composite (yay) with a 35 on english again, and, much to my displeasure, a 6 essay score this time around. Writing quickly has never been my strong point, but after the second test I felt I had done a very good job (not according to the graders though). I just wanted to know whether the essay score is meaningless. Also,I was just wondering whether to send in both tests even though every score on the first test with the exception of the essay was worse or whether the difference between a 6 and a 7 is minimal so i should just send in the second. I'm thoroughly sick of standardized tests, so i wont take it again. Thanks for your time and attention.

My friend took the ACT twice and scored a 34 first time around and a 35 the second time. Like you, he scored a 7 on the essay the first time around and a 6 the second time. He was accepted to Princeton and Yale.

your essay scores are already available? do you know why mine wouldnt be?
“combined English/Writing not yet available”

I would send both scores. The difference between a 6 and a 7 is huge - the 7 represents the 51% and the 6 is only the 37%. In fact, since both the 33 and 34 indicate the 99%, if you only send one score you should send the 33/7. The curve for the Writing is pretty ridiculous.

I know you are sick of tests, but just improving to an 8 would put you in the 86%. Practice, practice, practice!
