Thanks for all the good advice. I think my son will take his SAT IIs and the ACT this spring and hold off on the SAT I for now.

My son scored a lot better on the SAT than on the ACT; he is not a math & science person, and it was those scores that brought him down on the ACT.

I wish he hadn't listed his high school & 4 colleges on the ACT form. He did not do poorly (29), but as I said, he did better on the SAT and it would be nice to be able to ignore that ACT score.

RMGs Mom - I just want to let you know that there are struggles ahead with the whole admission/visit/essay process, and you don't need to do a lot in sophomore year. Do allow for testing fatigue. The tests with writing are much longer than the tests we remember; at some point, even a kid who enjoys the challenge will say "no more."

While your son is advanced in math and science, his English/reading scores will benefit from a year's maturing. If he decides to do a test prep course over the summer, he'll have plenty of chances to take practice tests. Your hunch that the ACT is better for math/science kids is a good one; the ACT that matters should be taken in spring of junior year or fall of senior year. I would hold off on taking it before then; you already have plenty of indicators that he will do well when the time is right.
