SAT or ACT...which one to take?

Ous son who is a sophomore recently took the PSAT in October 2008. He received his scores and is not happy. His score is 115 (33/42/40) and knowing that the PSAT is a good indicator for the SAT, we realized that this would translate to a 1150 SAT score. Not so good....

Knowing that the PSAT does not count for college admission, should we consider having him take the ACT and use that for his college application process?

Or, should we secure help for him to improve his numbers? would you recommend tutor or a course such as the Princeton Review/Kaplan. Which one of these have you had successes?

Thank you for your help.

Take both and see which one he does better on

I think the ACT is a lot easier. But the key to both is time management in my opinion.

The only part about the ACT I didn't like was the science part becuz it was based on analysis not exactly science facts

But I would suggest he take both also

Try the ACT first. You always have score choice with the ACT. If you have a bad ACT, no one will ever see it. If you have a bad SAT, some colleges will insist on seeing it in order to see your SAT IIs or your best SAT.

I agree with the fact that taking the SAT will not give you the option to NOT report/show your SAT scores especially when SAT subject tests are required on some admission process.

Any thoughts on a program that would help in preparing to take the ACT and/or SAT test? Experiences on Princeton Review, Kaplan, Collegeboard or private tutor?

Thanks again for your time to reply to my questions/concerns.

I got the Princeton Review online course from some discount, it was a pretty good review. Then, I bought the official SAT Study Guide from College Board. I did all the tests in it, and reviewed them till I understood every question. This helps a lot, as many memebers of CC will testify. Also, study vocab- I used Kaplan's list
