ACT score

I am a rising 12th grader who lives in Mississippi.
I need to raise my ACT score from 31 to at least a 34. I need to work on my Maths and Science sections. I scored less than 30 in both sections. Does anyone know of any tutoring agency that can help? I know that there are several of them out there but I need one with track record…one that has proven results. I need to increase my scores in time for the
Early Decision /Early Action applications later this year. I also need to raise my score in the essay writing part from a 7 to at least a 9

For UF? The App is due on Nov 1st, but the test score can be sent as late as December. You can take the ACT test on 9/9 and/or 10/28 test. The 12/9 test is likely too late.

This year, the average ACT score for admitted students was 30. Improving your test score may help a bit with admissions (your GPA/class rigor would be more important), but a 34 doesn’t ensure you would be given an OOS merit scholarship.

Also, UF doesn’t consider the essay writing score.

For other Florida schools, a 31 will likely earn you a OOS tuition waiver at FSU, and perhaps the Freshman Scholarship ($9,600 over 4 years). At USF, it would earn you their highest OOS scholarship award USF Green & Gold Presidential Award $48,000 (up to $12,000 per year).

A 31 or perhaps higher would also earn you UCF’s highest OOS merit award (I think it’s $44K over 4 years).

I can’t help you with tutoring agencies, but studying for the test and taking it at least one more time would be a good idea.

UF/FSU/USF/UCF are the most “selective” of the Florida public universities.

Good Luck!

With a 32 and a 30 in Math you could get a full ride at FAMU (School of Engineering in common with FSU).

Kaplan has books specifically for Math/Science sections (it’s one entire book of just Math/Science questions), you might find that helpful. Also get “For the love of ACT science” on Amazon. It’s arguably the best book for the science section! As for math, really focus on the timing and pay attention in your Alg2/Geometry class! It’s a lot of basic concepts but you need to go fast or else you’ll run out of time.

Good luck!

@Gator88NE Sorry but I’m a bit confused. Let me see if I understand this correctly. Even though the app is due in Nov I can still send in test scores after the date? I originally thought that I could only take the Oct act.

@Monkey288195 Yes, UF will take ACT/SAT test scores, after Nov 1’st. They want them by the end of December. For the ACT, the Oct 28th date is fine, but the Dec 9th date is likely too late. For the SAT, the Nov 5th date is fine, but that Dec 3rd data may or may not get the test score to UF in time. I wouldn’t count on it.

^^^^ A friend of mine sent her SAT score in late december, still got accepted.

You can always find exceptions to the rules, but I wouldn’t bet on being the exception…met the posted due dates!
