The name on my ACT is my preferred name, not my legal name - I have both on the common app (one is under “preferred” section) will this mixup affect my scores being identified?
Scores STILL haven’t been sent yet - will I get automatically deferred if Penn doesn’t get them by a certain date?
It might esp if they still haven’t received scores yet You need to call ACT and change your name to your legal name. This happened to one of my sons but with SAT… We called CB and they changed his name to legal name it was no big deal. but some colleges only go by your legal name on social security for all student records and scores are matched up by a computer so the computer may not catch the two names
Hi runswimyoga - I’ve called collegeboard numerous times (at least 6), sent them ID, etc, and they have yet to change my legal name almost a month after I submitted the request. It might be because I’m an international student and they have to verify ID, or it might be something else - at this point, I’ve pretty much given up on the collegeboard end. Do you know if you get automatically deferred if scores don’t get in at a certain date?
I think you need to contact Penn admissions and let them know what’s going on. They are super lenient about situations like this and you just need to talk to them about your unique situation. College board is not very efficient so there is a chance that they won’t deliver your scores by the end of November. However if you let Penn know, the admission officers might offer you an alternative solution. I don’t know what Penn would do, but it’s better to ask than to get automatically deferred.
