I know with the writing part of the ACT you're supposed to establish your point of view and go from there. But what if you can find a compromise or "middle ground" for the prompt? What would get you a better score?

No, dont! Pick a side and stick with it.

don’t*

Haha. Now I can say that I’ve corrected silverturtle’s grammar. :)

That’s what happens when you let the excitement of an exclamation mark get inside your head.

I have the ACT this Saturday, any advice? I heard that you have to write in cursive?

I attended a prep course once and they told me that there is a very strong and statistically significant correlation between the number of correct answers that you get and your score. Keep than in mind and you’ll be OK.

I have never heard this.

maybe that was the SAT…

No, that’s not the case with the SAT either. You do, however, have to write a paragraph in cursive.

any particular reason why?

It sort of serves as your signature.

Don’t be intimidated by the exclamation point.

I am also taking the ACT this Saturday. I have higher hopes for the ACT because I am more of a “bookworm” person rather than a “smart” individual… Well from what I have heard, if you score better on the ACT it is because it judges how well you know your information and the SAT judges how well you can take a test (like an IQ). Also, how does the writing section work? I paid extra to write the essay (I did really good on the SAT writing I scored a 12), will that be an extra section? Or will it be scored with the English?

lol, and if you don’t remember how to write in cursive?

Well, in the most direct sense, every test measures how well you take the test. Anyhow, the ACT is foremost an achievement test, whereas the SAT is primarily an aptitude test.

The essay does not affect your overall composite score but does factor into a combined “English/Writing subscore.”

^Writing in cursive is the hardest part of the test, in my humble opinion.

When I took the SAT the teacher had to write some letters in cursive for the kids taking the test lol.

Oh, that’s no problem; I’m not taking the test anytime soon. If, however, you forgot how to write in cursive, just fake your way through it by connecting the letters in each word.

That sucks, I was kind of hoping it would be its own score. How stupid are the ACT writing prompts? I really like the SAT prompts because I usually add historical or scientifical examples.

Well, mine was pretty stupid. They try to relate them more to high-school students’ lives.
