ACT writing score

I know one writing test is required when taking the ACT but are they using it for admission or still just "gathering information" on using it in the future as was the case when I asked in the past?

My D is sending her composite of 30 with a weak writing score (8) although sub-scores show a 33 English and 32 Reading along with two very well written essays. She is taking the ACT one last time this Saturday and doesn't want to take the writing again so she can view the composite online and have it sent in time for priority admissions.

Any thoughts?

I was told the same thing when I asked last November, but that 33 in English will allow your daughter to get credit for RHET 105, which fulfills the University’s composition requirement. That’s money in the bank. You only need to submit one ACT with writing, and they’ll still use the ACT with the highest composite. The ACT 33 in English from whatever composite scored ACT will still be used for the RHET credit mentioned above.

Balthezar, where did you learn that a 33 ACT English score gets you credit for Rhet 105? Any other ACT scores that give credit for required courses?

Jeannie, what college within UIUC is your D applying to?

I always have trouble finding this, but here it is: [Rhetoric , Center for Teaching Excellence, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign](http://cte.illinois.edu/testing/placprof/rhetoric.html)

I was mistaken it’s a 32 or better subscore in English, and I’m not aware of any other course credit obtainable from ACT scores.

Thanks for the link and the information, Balthezar.
