Does anyone know any acting coaches in the Virginia area that give private acting lessons?

What part of VA?

There are also coaches who are available on skype- such as MTCA. Heard they are somewhat reasonable. We didn’t use any coaches for my son and for my daughter, she had a friend who is a professional actor help her a couple of times. He was also a teacher at a summer theatre camp where she worked. Are there any college acting programs close to you? Maybe you can summon someone from their program. Good luck.

I agree about MTCA…excellent coaching. Skype is a little unwieldy, but manageable. The decision to use a college audition coach is not an easy one, unless you’re like me. We had a difficult time finding a competent coach in my area, and we were wasting time looking for one. Others highly recommended MTCA, so we gave it a try. It has been a good experience. Also, they will be helpful with information about college programs, even the academic side. It all costs money, but my time is also money, so this is worthwhile to me. You might simply contact them and discuss your particular situation. Good luck!

Unless you are at an excellent performing arts high school, where you will have had the equivalent of coaching for the last 4 years, get a coach. It is infinitely worth the money. You will have less than 5 minutes to distinguish yourself from hundreds of other applicants–only an experienced coach can help you use those minutes to best advantage. (Boys have less competition so maybe it’s not as important for them.)

There is a company in NYC/Long Island area, College Audition Solutions, that offers in-person and Skype coaching. It’s one guy, we met him when my son attended Artsbridge last month in New York. He helped my son find a great audition piece, we have worked with him once in-person and several times on Skype. In-person is better, but Skype has worked for us just fine. He is awesome. He doesn’t just coach my son’s audition,he explains and teaches him technique so he understands the directions he is being given. Also, he knows what a good program is looking for; which we found out goes beyond just a good audition piece.
Soooo many other people to compete against, CAS has been like finding a map through the wilderness.

I highly recommend Rip Claassen, who is a local theatre professional and coach. He coaches my son and has been amazing. Interesting quirky guy. I can give you contact info if you like.
