Does anyone know anything about the acting program at BU?
Do many people gain success afterwards?
Are there many opportunities to act in theatre or attend movie castings in Boston?
Has anyone double majored in acting and a major in CAS and would like to share their story? thanks

The acting program is highly regarded and has many successful alumni. The student productions are often really stellar.
The program is very intense, so I think most of the students' work takes place at BU, but BU students and young alumni are nonetheless visible in the Boston theatre scene.

There doesn't seem to be a school path to success in a field like acting; unlike many fields, you can't fake what you do onstage so it really is up to you.

Here's the webpage. Just glancing at it, I'd suggest talking to the advisors there about a CAS major because the curriculum looks pretty full.

I've seen many BU students in plays around Boston but, to be truthful, you also see kids from Boston Conservatory (which specializes in musicals), Brandeis and some of the graduate programs.

can non-theatre majors audition for plays/musicals/theatre at bu? and do they actually have any chance? anyone have any insight?

Yes. Here, for example, is the page for one theatre group. Note the links page connects to other groups and sources.

But (and I think this is what you're asking) non-majors can NOT audition for the CFA productions.

1 out of 7 people who audition are accepted ... the class of 2010 has 40 theatre students.

you cannot be cast in a cfa production until 2nd semester sophmore year.

unlike some other theatre programs [i.e. nyu & c. mellon] you get a bachelor of fine arts & therefore you only take 6 liberal arts electives, and they can all be 100 levels. you spend A LOT of time rehersing & whatnot.

there are famous alum and students, currently one student was in memoirs of a geisha and she's on broadway now for a play that was picked up.

you take either go the theatre arts route or acting route ... you'll be close with professors.

it's a great school and program

if you can't apply for the BUCOP until sophomore year, how do you start to get your acting credits done while in your first year of CAS?

Regarding about whether or not people gain success afterward, it all depends on what YOU put into it. Jason Alexander went to BU (though he did drop out). So did Brad Oscar...he is not well-known by any means, but he has had quite a few credits on the Broadway stage. And, yes, there is a student here who was in Memoirs of a Geisha and she will be on Broadway in a couple of months. Getting a degree in BU's intensive acting program doesn't guarantee you success, but there have been successful alumni...again, it depends on the amount of effort you put into it.

coffeetoffee, you have to start in CFA. CFA students take CAS classes anyway, whereas CAS students are barred from the CFA classes, so it's most practical to begin the CFA degree first.

Why BU for acting? emerson is the way to go.

Anyone gotten any word from Boston University after Chicago Unifieds?
