Activities: Foreign Language vs. Foreign Exchange - foreign penpals?

I developed two strong foreign penpals and our conversations are completely in the other language (Korean). At first I was going to list this as foreign exchange, but then I was reading some old threads and people were saying that foreign exchange implied going or living abroad with a host family, which I never did. I also thought that listing this as foreign language would be more advantageous since it may emphasize that I'm comfortable writing in another language.

Should I list my penpal activity as foreign language or foreign exchange?
I listed all my run-of-the-mill activities like being music, leadership, and community service and all that and I thought this would be something a bit more unique, especially as it relates to my interest in international studies.

I don’t know if that can be counted as an EC. You may mention it in the essay if possible. You need to document your foreign language ability by other means and this is definitely not considered an “exchange” experience.

You could mention it in conjunction with your foriegn language
