Activities in additional information document? Please help!

Hello,

I have a slightly weird problem - all my activities do not fit in the common app activities section. Other problem is that I study seven foreign languages but in order for all activities to fit in I have to shrank them into one item. The problem is that when I am supposed to fill in how many hours a week am I doing that it differs for every language. Is that something I should maybe elaborate - explain in the additional paper one can submit with the common app? Is it OK to list my other activities in the additional paper or is it better to choose the 10 most important ones?

Thank you very much,

Not sure studying foreign languages is an EC… If you have more than 10 activities it is doubtful that they are all worth listing, if you post your activities someone can give you advice on which ones to include.

My D had more than 10 activities, and used the additional info section for overflow. She got into U of Chicago EA, so I don’t think it caused the admissions committee to look down on her. But you need to be concise if you can. So maybe put a section in your additional activities Word document that look like:

Additional Foreign Language Studies:

 • Korean (9th-12th grade, 4 hours/week, 40 weeks/year)
 • Mandarin (10th-11th grade, 3 hours/week, 25 weeks/year)
 • etc.

I would not list the languages you just took school courses in, only those you did extra/outside studying for.

Thank you!
