Any thoughts on whether or not to attach an activity sheet to the common app for Midd? There seem to be varying schools of thought on this...it's can be a more organized and thorough presentation of the information, but some believe that colleges may not like it...

I say do it. They can only throw it out. Just make sure it isn’t too long, redundant, or list trivial activities “Student of the Month in 7th grade, Greeter at Church, Captain rec Volleyball Team” etc.

thanks, just don’t want to annoy. I imagine different schools may have different reactions.

My S attached one and he is about as humble as they come. HIs GC suggested it because his EC’s are unusual and wanted him to put more detail than the CA allowed. His is about a page. Very simple… like my S…LOL!!

Great, thanks! My daughter’s would not be more than a page, just would allow a bit more explanation.

Listen, how I look at it is that they actually DO want to know what makes you special, and if it doesn’t show on the common app, you will help your case overall.
Athletes send tapes of games; dancers, musicians and artists send supplements, so if your strength is elsewhere, why not include it?

You are right, that’s a good way of looking at it. My older daughter did it, and she was accepted nearly everywhere, but this daughter is aiming pretty high.

Very good point OBD!! I think the colleges want to know what is unique about YOU!! My S really fought me on this resume thing… I won…:-)) I just felt that his listing on the CA as ’ “Regional Chapter Chief” would leave ad coms scratching their heads… it now has a short sentence explaining that he runs meetings of 150+ ADULT members and all that he is responsible for. It makes a BIG difference I think.

Good work, mother! Sometimes we do know best!

Yup.
