No, going to a good school does not guarantee anything. But she did have all the academic resources available and was focusing all of her attention on them (and a HS life), so I just meant that being a movie star doesn't seem to be her only selling point. Meh

I suppose you're right...but you have to admit, it must help a lot. I'm jealous of her apparent shoe-in into Princeton. (sour grapes!)

Well, she has a talent and she capitalised on it. Big deal. If she were a talented scientist would you begrudge her winning a national competition and getting in that way? She made the most of her talents. Besides, would you rather want Camilla Belle or another scientist in your class ;) ?

I wouldn't go so far -- I have plenty of friends that are just as talented that simply don't have the resources to succeed as much as she has. Plus, she's completely gorgeous. That must help too. I don't know her, so I can't say anything about how intelligent she is, etc.

AndiOrz, think before you speak. First, who said she was a "shoe in". Second, she earned the resources you are referring to. How many of your "just as talented friends" have earned $millions by the age of 18. If it were that simple, we would have all done it by now. No?

She was obviously very well off to afford a "prestegious Cali private school". That money helps when you're going through audition after audition.

Do you honestly think Princeton is going to reject her?

Okay, let's be honest here. None of those movies are THAT good. The only one i've heard of is Jurassic Park, and that was 13 years ago! Maybe her acting can get her into some trash school like Stanford, but simply "being famous and hot" doesn't cut it here at Princeton. You have to win an oscar or two as well.

Success - especially FAME is mostly dependent on luck... just like the Oct. 05 SAT essay question (is success based on luck or ability), I would say making it in the show biz is definitely mostly attributed to luck.
It doesn't matter how much talent you have, if you don't have the oppurtunity, you'll never make it.
On the other hand, if you have connections, oppurtunities, you don't even need that much talent to make it big... my example is, once again, Hilary Duff.

How do you know that Hilary Duff did not do really well at Harvard? When i heard someone mention it before i thought it was a joke but it seems from this thread its not.

Personally i think it must be tough growing up having to do school work as well as work/learn scripts. Natalie Portman aparantly came first or second in some of her classes at Harvard. Personally i find the whole idea that fame should make you a sure bet quite strange, however if they have the scores otherwise i dont see why acting should not be considerd a skill just as equestrian (gee how many poor folk can do that) or gymnastics may be.

the latest i can find on camilla, from april 30th:

Today Belle says she is 'living one day at a time' and, indeed, her plans for the coming year seem up in the air. She has applied to both Edinburgh and Princeton universities, but she has recently been having second thoughts about going to Scotland.

'If I went, I'd have to stop acting for four years, and it would be really, really difficult to come back all over again,' she says. She hasn't heard from Princeton yet (she will this month), but even if she is admitted, she's not certain she'll be back from filming with Emmerich in time to start the academic year.

'Whatever happens is meant to be, and I'm not going to stress out about it,' she says. If college doesn't work out, she wants to travel and spend time studying languages. She is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, which she speaks with her mother and grandmother.

columbia unquestionably has the most celebrity students, with HYP all having their handfuls. brown's "celebrities" tend to be more the children of celebrities, including spawn of two of the beatles.
