She took the ACT again in Oct and did worse. I don’t think she’s open to taking it again, or able to do any better than the 24 without committing a significant amount of study time which would be hard to find (she’s a CNA, and has a full spring semester that includes an AP Psych online, block Stats class, and community college Med Term class). I had high hopes for her retake because the first time she took it unprepared and only needed one point higher in any of the areas to get a 25, but she did worse in all sections.
I did just find out about state and federal nursing loans, similar to Perkins. WI has its own state program where she could get $1-3k a year and they’ll also forgive up to 50% for 2 years of work in WI. NPCs never show that as an option. Too many variables, I imagine. Capital has it through the federal program but I had to do some digging to find it. It isn’t listed on the main freshman scholarship page.
Since you did find a difference on the NPC when putting in a lower ACT, when you call the school make sure they are using her highest scores for her award. My daughter’s merit award was lower than I’d calculated using the NPC. When the award came in February it was still lower. I called, was sent from FA office to Admissions, talked to two people and finally someone read the stats to me. They were using an old ACT score that was on an old high scool transcript. Turned out the office had two admissions files and any new scores or transcripts were going to the ‘dead’ fileand DDs ino was never uplated when her scores increased.
I think they have her correct scores but I will double check with them on everything. It looks like something is off with the calculator because just lowering the GPA or the ACT, still shows a higher merit amount than what she actually was awarded.
She got a letter from Berea today that they want to reevaluate her after their priority 2 deadline at the end of February. So that’s disappointing, but not entirely without hope.
