Actually getting a chance at getting into an Ivy?

I come from a county in Maryland where the education system is great, but isn’t crazy competitive like other counties around the country. Only a handful (less than 15 I’m guessing) of seniors each year get into HYPSM. More (maybe somewhere around 30) get into the “lower ivies” like Dartmouth or Cornell or UPenn. We do get a lot of people into Georgetown and JHU, though.

The problem here is that I really want a shot at getting into HYPSM. Anything I can do? I’m at the end of my freshman year. I’d otherwise get a job this summer, except I skipped a grade and I’m too young for work. Any good places to volunteer? EC’s? Hooks?

What you you like doing?

Are you from Montgomery? That's like the only county MD has that has excellent schools (I mean in DC area).

Don't whine about only 15 getting into HYPSM. That's a lot. No one at my school that I know has ever gone to an Ivy of any sort, or JHU, or Georgetown.

I'm in Howard County. I'm into visual arts (painting, drawing, photography). I want to enter in that scholastic art contest this fall, but other than that, I dunno what else I could do to "stand out" to admissions folks.

to drummerdude_07: I'm quite sorry about your school's plight.

wow. people are preparing for college admissions stuff way too early. Do what you enjoy and have fun. don't make urself do things that you don't want to just to look good when college admissions rolls by.
