ACU or Harding

Abilene Christian University and Harding University; the majority of my high school classmates are considering one of these two schools. In fact, most, if not all, of the faculty members at my school attended one of these two universities. Because of this, I'd like to apply to one of these schools as a safety; I will have friends at each one so it's one of the few schools I'm applying to where I'll know people. However, I only want to apply to one since I already have a few other safeties in mind. If anyone has any information on which school is better academically, more widely recognized, etc. I'd really appreciate it. As of now, I'm considering a degree in secondary education hopefully teaching biology or maybe anatomy & physiology, if that helps.

I’m assuming you go to a Church of Christ school like I do :). These schools seem to have similar admissions standards and a similar reputation, so I think your decision should come down to which school you like the feel of more. They’re similar in size as well (~4,000 students). One thing I noticed while visiting Harding is that although the people are really nice there, it’s literally in the middle of nowhere. Also, the campus atmosphere is really REALLY strict (example, girls can’t wear shorts). ACU is in a much bigger town but it’s still pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I haven’t visited there but I’ve heard good things about it. I know a smart girl from my school majoring in Elementary Education there so I’m sure their education program is good. Overall, I think you just have to pick which one best suits you. Also, have you considered Lipscomb University? I went on a tour there (it’s also a Church of Christ school) and even though small schools aren’t for me and I’ve decided against applying there, I liked the feel of their campus. Plus, it’s in Nashville which is a great town with lots to do!

Thanks for the advice, and your assumption is correct. As for Lipscomb, I’ve heard of it, but I haven’t really looked into it.

Definitely go for Lipscomb. Harding is okay, everyone I know that goes to ACU HATES it.

My vote is for ACU. It’s solely based on them moving to the Southland Conference. They will be a NCAA D1 FCS school. I’m a firm believer in sports. I think regional schools become more nationally known because of it.
