i applied ea to georgetown. sooo i'll find out in a couple of weeks. what i'm planning on doing, is if i get in, apply to another reach school or 2 (harvard, etc. extremely hard reach schools), and if not, well then i won't bother with those. because i really don't feel as if i have a decent enough shot at those schools if i can't even get ino georgetown, which is hard enough. but i know that sometimes decisions are just totally random. so my point is, is this a smart or dumb strategy?

Depends. You might have a decent theory going, but i read somewhere on here about a guy who had kinda mediocre sat scores and got rejected from schools like vanderbilt, etc. (every school he applied to) and was just waiting on one more decision to come in: harvard. He thought he knew he'd get rejected but he actually got in cuz he had some crazy hook (like he raised a million dollars for charity). If you're just resting on sat scores/gpa and don't have anything special, then you probably won't get into harvard if you don't get into georgetown though.

yea i have no hooks. just pretty good gpa, sat's, extracurric's, and essays. so i doubt somehting totallly crazy would happen.

essays could be that crazy hook. or teacher recs. but in all honesty, it is unlikely. maybe only apply to one of those schools just for giggles.
