Admission as a Recruit

hey everybody, i was just wondering what it takes to get into an ivy. my brother goes to dartmouth ('07) and i am wishing for the same thing. i am a recruitable rower on the top rowing program in the US. i placed fourth in the largest HS regatta in the world, and am involved in many other extra-curriculars. my sats are very high ( im taking them again but im around the 2150-2250 range) and my grades are low/average (3.1 unweighted) i have some honors and ap's and am looking for advice. do you think im a good enough candidate to go to darmouth like my brother?

PS - any college suggestions for a applicant like me would be great, plus does anyone know if having a sibling at a college helps ? thanks

buuuuuuuump

why not contact the coach? surely the coach would be able to give you a better answer than any of us!

I'm a little confused by your post, mmcgrath. If you are "a recruitable rower on the top rowing program in the US" surely by now you must know whether or not your application is being supported by the Dartmouth coach, since coaches put together their support lists before ED/EA applications are due.

Is the Dartmouth coach supporting you? If so, relax, you have a more than excellent chance of being admitted and joining your brother. If not, your gpa is low for an ivy, but hey, you never know!

i'd say with that saw and rowing recruitment your in,
if you we're recruitable but low sat maybe not..
ive known some tennis players with low gpas and high sats like you who played ivy leage, even some with lower sats as well, mid 1300 , so you and your bro should be able to party it up

ive seen kids with horrible averages get in coz they talked to the coaches. this is the key point and its what i messed up on. remember everyone looks the same so that word from the coach can do you real good. heavies in the 20's look real good but the 30's will almost always work. lights should at least be in the 40's.

MORE IMPORTANTLY************

i know the deadline has passed for apps, but is it too late to get in touch with the coaches and hopefully get a nod? can i submit times to them in jan and feb or am i out of luck?

thank everone

oh no you can submit
