Admission chances for USA citizen living overseas vs. international student ?

Hello,

My kid (and also me) are USA citizens. Does he have any upper hand when it comes to getting selected at a particular University compared to an international student having a very similar profile (similar GPA, SAT scores etc) although both he and the international student will be OOS ?

Is there anything like the University preferring the USA citizen who has lived overseas to bring diversity/different cultural experience to the classroom ?

Thanks.

Forgot to add that my kid is living outside the USA and will apply for undergrad to USA universities.

Yes, as a US citizen he will be in better shape than a true international

Also, most US colleges are need-aware for international students. If you are not applying for financial aid, that will give you a leg up on a local citizen of your current country of residence.
