Admission Decisions Class of 2023

So, my informed delivery states I have a mail piece that they didn’t scan…it’s either a package that I ordered or a large envelope. Let’s hope for the large envelope.

I just sent an email

I did too! Since no response from my “counselor,” I sent to admission-ugrad@sc.edu. Is that where you sent your email?

@macusc who is ur counselor? I will copy admissions email address on it to cover my self

@MB2231 what state are you in?

This process is beyond bush league. Really has me questioning the school. Poor delivery of notifications, no response to emails, and disrespectful to students and parents. Very concerning.

Yeah Ive emailed 2 times. No Response and when you call they just tell you it was mailed. At this point I bet we all got deferrals or rejections and they are sending out this week so we cant call them while they are on break

Literally I cant anymore with this school

So received an automated response to my email that they have a high volume of messages and working to respond in 2-3 business days. Hmm I wonder why

My counselor is Richard Hartley. We have called last week and no response so decided to emailed him yesterday. Today we emailed the admissions office…

I hope someone finds out what REALLY happened and posts on here. There’s NO way they mailed them on the 12th or the 13th, and there’s no reason they can’t have updates or links to the decision on our kids portals - like most of the other schools. It’s leaving such a bad impression on me, and I guess they don’t care but they should care. It doesn’t matter if it’s a school, a corporation, a nonprofit - whatever - one poorly run department will negatively impact the entire organization and is a sign of poor leadership. Admissions should have better focus by the USC execs - this should not be ok. And to hear it’s happening even to a family of two alums @macusc! Crazy.

The high volume of calls and emails are their own fault! There should have been an email with a confirmation and later followed by a letter. No excuse!

OK - so I just got an email back because its my third one and they aid my letter was mailed early last week and I should have gotten it by now - They said my daughter was put in for 2nd review or deferment until March :frowning: At least I have my answer…

@bjo114 What a relief to know and sending positive thoughts for March! Did you hear back from your designated admissions counselor or main admissions department? Thanks and good luck!

@bjo114 at least it’s not a rejection. Still have a chance what is the major. I haven’t seen anyone post anywhere about my daughters major getting accepted. She applied to the communications/journalism school.

@Badgersmom @tc1214 Her major is Education. We emailed the normal admissions email. At least we got an answer

We emailed our USC counselor. She responded very quickly. She apologized for the USPS mix up and said she would give further information since the holiday break starts tomorrow. My son was “selected for second review” as well. I believe this is because he applied to the business school and the EA applicants were very competitive (from what I can see here) as I’m sure is the same with other majors. According to our Naviance, he’s well into the green - but that does not account for which major/college students are accepted into. He will be reviewed with the Regular decision application pool. We will see what March brings… BTW, he was even asked to apply to the Honors College based on his ACT score.

@christinatoto Southeastern PA

I am sorry to all of you feeling the angst of not knowing. SC is a little old school with the snail mail first followed by the portal updates. Those of you concerned with the school in general, as the parent of a freshman with no other attachment to the school, we have been impressed with what our son has experienced his first semester. Other than long lines at the remodeled Russell House (dining options), he has had no issues. Housing issues were solved same day, orientation and admitted student day were very well done. We are very happy overall.

I just spoke to admissions and the young lady spent over 15 minutes on the telephone with me. She was very courteous and willing to explain the situation. Both of sons were chosen for 2nd Review. The reasoning that I was able to gain and evaluate is the lower end of the test scores for this class of applicants is 1250. Although our sons are a little bit lower, they are going to begin to look in more detail at the Personal Statement, Recommendation Letters, Activities, etc. This was not said but I believe for EA, they primarily run the GPA and Test Scores through some evaluation process and don’t look too hard at all the additional/ancillary details. I am not an expert and this is just a guess based on how she said our sons would be evaluated going forward. They have already declined applicants based on scores and GPA so 2nd review is not a decline and they still have a reasonable chance to receive a YES sometime after UofSC returns from Holiday Break. They begin reevaluating 2nd review candidates at the beginning of January. They review all of the information I mentioned earlier in my post as well as discussing candidates with peer admissions advisors, etc. I don’t expect a decision until February or March though. I would like to reiterate that the admissions person with whom I spoke was very detailed and willing to share a detailed explanation of 2nd Review. I also assume that EA, unless you are a high stat student is probably not the way to go if you are expecting an early answer. It heightens expectations for the students and parents. Happy Holidays everyone!
