Admission: gender and STEM

Statistically, females represent 44% of the those enrolled in Science and engineering.

What role do you think gender plays in admission into acceptance into ND? Does it raise the chances for ND acceptance of a person who can demonstrate interest in a STEM field, who may otherwise be borderline.

@novillero Notre Dame certainly managed to increase the number of excellent female First-Year Engineering applicants over recent years, and with it the number of admitted and enrolled female ND Engineering students. As stated, this trend is directly related to the increased number of applications, not in any way to comparably lower qualification at application stage - this is important. This trend for Engineering will undoubtedly continue, in my pov. As far as I am aware, other than Engineering, female students haven’t been underrepresented in other STEM fields at Notre Dame in recent years, which would be in line with the statistic you are quoting above.
