@DTEmom Yep!
I meant I got into the Honors Program at my other schools (Rutgers, Rowan and Temple) but not TCNJâŠ
@Upenngirl98 I would think you still have a chance. My son is accepted to TCNJ Honors. Deciding between TCNJ and Delaware (with Temple on the bubble). If he chooses Delaware, thatâs one spot open. Moreover, TCNJ was very clear to those who were accepted into the Honors program to let them know if youâre not attending so that they can open up the spot for someone else.
Ugh I would love to attend! Idk why I wasnât offered admission Thanks @mtown27 !
If youâre a general admit you can always apply for honors after just first semester and as long as you have a strong gpa its not really a problem.
Yeah I know But It would be great if I just started off as a freshmen
oh well Iâll pray LOL
@Upenngirl98 Best of luck to you, I was recently accepted into TCNJâs Honors Program, and that was pretty much the icing on the cake for me. I never realized that they would defer students from this program, but Iâm sure there will be someone who leaves and thus will open up a spot for you. Not to mention the fact that TCNJ Honors is not as âprestigiousâ as it seems since it is only an additional difficult few courses along with honors housing (which I believe is Centennial hall, correct me if Iâm wrong). Just as Stones3 said, if you have a strong GPA, no worries, youâll get in there eventually :). Also, your name is awesome, I was hoping to get into UPenn Wharton, and glad to see others who applied Ivy are most likely to be attending TCNJ.
My Daughter was accepted today via email. She is deciding between TCNJ, Geneseo, Binghamton. Not sure if this will help her decide? If anyone has experienced the program and would like to share that would be great.
FrankGal, congrats. If youâre in state its an easy decision. Also, if she is a business major, the program today was ranked #35 in the entire country by the well respected BusinessWeek/Bloomberg undergraduate survey.
AWWH thanks @RutgersVsTCNJ lol my essay was really rushed but honestly Idk why I didnât get in (with stats and stuff)LOL
And yeah even if I donât get a spot Iâll reapply
Stones3, thanks. We live in NY which is making the decision a little tougher. My D has been accepted into the school of engineering.
My older daughter went to Bing and my younger went to TCNJ (Honors).
TCNJ has the FSP program so you get to have a community you live with and learn with and a professor you get to know right up front. Also you have Community Advisors that you get to know during orientaiton. Also TCNJ has a fantastic orientation (Welcome Week) that was great for my daughter with a little anxiety.
For my eldest you do a couple of days orientation sometime during the summer and then have a couple of days of orientation.
Both schools have a bus loop that will take you to local stores/sites/towns.
Bing is much larger and inpersonalâŠbut for my older it was good for her to have a place to not stand out.
For my youngest, a smaller school was betterâŠshe would want the relationships she could form.
Both campuses are well laid out and not difficult to get aroundâŠboth have decent amount of housing.
Both are excellent public school value.
bopper - Thanks so much for your reply. it is a matter of best fit at this point. both schools ( Bing, TCNJ)
@FrankGal Have you compared the engineering program at all three schools? I am not familiar with the programs at the NY schools, but the TCNJ program is rather rigid and makes it difficult if not impossible to change majors among the engineering disciplines. As both my husband and I are engineers that both changed our minds as to which type engineering was right for us (and we attended two different schools) this was a deal breaker for my son. We were unaware of this detail when he applied, and only found out after he was accepted. I feel that most kids donât really know enough at this point to lock themselves into a major like that. We loved the dean of engineering and felt it was a strong program, but the rigid, book heavy curriculum was not the right match for my son. On the flip side, I work with a TCNJ graduate who was very happy with his engineering education and is a great engineer.
@crazymamaB thank you for your thoughtful response. yes, we did hear that it could be hard to switch out of majors at TCNJ. Itâs getting late in the process for deciding. Itâs been a tough process for us. My Daughter is very undecided in general. She also got into a bunch of schools. We went back and forth between Private & Public schools. TCNJ seems to be a very nice place and the reputation although not completely known in Rockland County is a good one. At some point you have to decide and go for it. thanks again.
re: changing majorsâŠprobably you know by now if your child picks something and sticks with it (e.g., have they done a sport or band for quite some time?) or do they like to try new things?
My Daughter how always stuck with things. Dance, Tennis, even Girl Scouts. She has done well in Math & Science which is why we were thinking Engineering. I just know Engineering will be a difficult work load and worry about same.
Itâs not so much the changing out of engineering, but changing within the engineering discipline. It is really difficult to understand what each entails until you start taking some specific classes. TCNJ is a great school and I am sure your daughter will do well there. I just wanted to point that out. I do know a student there taking engineering now, and she is very happy with her decision.
Just wanted to update peopleâwho possibly were on the wait list like me!
The admissions office sent out emails last night for the honors program! I got in :D!
@Upenngirl98, congratulations, see you around at the Honors Program
@RutgersVsTCNJ THANK YOU!! Unfortunately I committed to Rutgers Honors a couple of days before LOL
