My son applied to 5 boarding schools. He has been offered a place at one with the condition that he has to accept by 5th February.

I have e-mailed the other schools (HADES) to request for an early decision. Is there any chance in HADES of getting a decision from the others by 5th February?

You will probably won’t get an answer or at least not a definite answer. Telling the top tier schools you have applied to that you have other options is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it may improve your “marketability” and have the schools to take another look at you,and in some cases you may get a “likely letter”. On the other hand, for schools concerned about their yield, it may put you on the “possibly not to come” list and therefore reduce your chance of getting admitted coming March 10.

And, out of the curiosity, does the school from which you have received offer of admission not follow the March 10 rule? Or, do they only make exceptions to certain applicants?

I would question any school that made me and my child make a decision so quickly that it must be made by 2/5. It doesn’t sound like a school I would want my child to attend. It smacks of desperation on their part. If they want your son that badly to use this tactic, my guess is the spot would still be open in March. Those schools that give acceptances on 3/10 give families the courtesy of 1 month to decide.

Why over think this? If this is a first choice school, then you should grab the chance. However, if you are waiting for more “reach” schools and possibly FA, then I can see waiting. I agree, if they want you now, they will probably want you come March 10.
I would not tell which school it is. Especially if you turn it down.

Boarding schools are used to inquiries like this but most of the time they are from families applying to both boarding and day schools. Some day schools make their admission decisions early and expect a response from families before March 10. In any case, it’s unrealistic to expect an “official” offer (if any kind of offer or hint of offer at all) from boarding schools before March 10. If your offer is from a day school, ask for an extension. They’d usually understand the situation and grant you an extension.

I think you should wait. Zuzu is right. If they want u know they want u march 10th. Plus HADES schools dont give up decisions no matter how hard u press them. Coaches and itnerviewers can say they want you, but they cant flat out say ur comin next year
