Admission process-International Students

Hey there!

I can't seem to find out the answers I'm looking for so...

I'm hoping to become an international student in the u.s. and has encountered a few difficulties:
1. Since my school's counselor doesn't know English, should I ask for a recommendation letter, translate it and then return it, so she will submit it??
2. Can I do the same with the official transcripts?
3. Can I send everything through the common app? (essays, TOEFL score...)
4. Should I send my SAT scores before or after submitting the Common-App?

Any information would be appreciated,
Thank you!

That’s what I did. It’s fine as long as your counselor is comfortable with the arrangement.

I believe everything can be sent online through Common App these days, except for test scores. You will have to request score reports directly from the testing agency.

Either one is fine, as long as it’s within the same admission cycle. If you are applying for next fall, you can request score reports now even if you won’t submit your application for another 2 months.

wow!!

thank you so much!
you helped a lot =] appreciate it.

I have some of the same doubts as the OP. Concerning the

“Since my school’s counselor doesn’t know English, should I ask for a recommendation letter, translate it and then return it, so she will submit it??”

Where does the coulselor submit the letter? I do not know where the teacher has to submit it and how.

Your teachers and counselor can sign their letters and mail them to the colleges you applying to, or they can create a Common App account to submit them electronically.

I noticed you all say recommendation letter. Doesn’t the Commonapp require teachers to fill in a teacher evaluation form? Or can that form be replaced with a recommendation letter?

Rec letter is the written evaluation part of the teacher’s form

Ill try to point out your options.

1.

  • get a professional translator ($$)
  • translate it yourself or have an english teacher at your school translate it.
  • you write it, let him read it and then sign off on it.

-same as first 2 options of no.1.

3.
-Yes.

  • SAT and TOEFL scores should be sent directly from the testing agency. (Dont forget to use your free score reports and know the school codes)

4.

  • I would send TOEFL scores first, they take the longest. (too long to tell exactly)
-SAT scores will take maybe a week

Some schools will not consider your application until ALL your documents are processed.
