My 11-year old son has learning disability. After years of pleading with the public school to provide individualized program, we gave up and enrolled him in an LD school. He is doing well. He is very bright kid with strength in Math, Science but struggles with Reading comprehension and written expression. He is improving and we are hoping by the time he finishes 8th grade, he would be on par with his peers. He might need some accommodations going forward but hoping for the best. Since we are totally soured on public schools, I am beginning to think what to do in 3 years when he is ready for 9th grade. There appear to be some private schools with some LD programs but nothing big. Do any of the top private schools ever accept kids with learning disabilities? We live close to Lawrenceville, Peddie, Hun etc. but we will send him wherever he has a good opportunity to learn and succeed. Do schools like Phillips, Milton, Deerfield, Groton, Middlesex, etc. have programs to help students with learning disabilities. Do they even admit any? Thanks.

Pennington School has a program. I think Hun does also. There is additional cost associated with the programs. I don’t know about Lawrenceville or any others, though.

There’s a good website called boardingschoolreview.com where you can do a search for schools with support for ld. Our s was in an ld school in NYC through 8th grade and is now in a mainstream boarding school. It’s a big adjustment but he seems to be managing as the school is very supportive.
