If a school is not need-blind they take a look at whether an applicant is applying for financial aid or not and that factors into the admissions decision. Is it therefore advantageous to have and EFC in the 50s as opposed to one in the 20s or something? Maybe its binary? Seems like admissions decisions come first, then financial decisions so maybe they dont even look beyond needs financial aid yes or no.
thanks
If a school is need aware, the level of financial need Can be considered when your application is considered. These schools don’t have a bottomless pit of money, and some colleges need to be very cautious how they award THEIR institutional money.
I don’t think there is an actual dollar cut off…but I’m not sure about that for all colleges.
But at need aware schools…the more substantial your financial need the more this has the potential to impact admissions…I believe.

Beyond need-aware / need-blind admissions policies, those with less financial need are more likely to have more opportunities and fewer barriers than those with more financial need, which is an indirect (but potentially large) advantage in building good college admission credentials.
