Hello, my son applied to ECU for Fall 2017 and wanted a take on his chances- 2.6 unweighted 3.7 weighted, 1300 SAT (1600 scale) and composite 30 on the ACT. EC’s fairly strong, an arts internship, worked the same job for 1.5 years. He’s taken 4 AP classes, bulk of the remainder are Honors. He struggled 9th and 10th with the resulting low GPA. Welcome your thoughts, thanks!
Adding that he’s enrolled in AP Calc and AP stats with other honors courses for 12th yr.
Hi! You didn’t mention, is he in or out of state?
When we toured, we were told the average accepted unweighted GPA was 3.3 last year. Having said that, his test scores are excellent and it sounds like he’s got a lot of rigor in his courses. When he applied, did he speak to the lower grades he earned 9th and 10th grade?
I have heard they tend to like to see an upwards trend both in class rigor and in grades, so it sounds like he hit both of those things, as well as the great test scores, internship, and ec’s while holding a job. I’ve heard that applying early can make a difference too, so all of those things are great.
If it were my child, I would feel pretty good about his chances – especially if he is in state!
I hope this helps, and please update when you find out.
