what would I major into end up working in the admissions department at a college or university? Also could I go straight to working at a college or would I need to work as a guidance counselor for a few years first and finally what is the pay usually like for an admissions person? Thanks, any info would be appreciated.

I have limited knowledge...but I have heard from someone who has been an admissions counselor for 30+ years, you need a minimum of a master's degree in any subject to qualify for the positions.

You need a masters in college student personnel.

many admissions officers are highly invovled university students who go work for the university straight out of college and after a few years get their masters in education while still working at the school. These admissions officers have all different types of majors.

Masters in Counceling would be a good choice as well.

If you want to make a career in the college admissions/student affairs area the most pertinent master's degree would be in pupil personnel which is often found in education departments at major universities. However, most colleges will require a master's degree in that or a related area which includes most of the counseling offerings in departments of education.
