So I was watching a CNBC segment on Admissions Counselors and the two guests charge like $900+/hour. That, in all sincerity, seemed enormously obnoxious beyond human comprehension.
If one needs a counselor to get into a certain school then maybe there's a better fit somewhere else? My guess is that this market niche is about to boom which may, in fact, worsen the problem (if one views this as a problem).
Not that I care (and it is, thankfully, a free country), but the whole thing seems brutal and wrong.
Independent education consultant (IEC) rates range based on experience and area of the country, similar to standardized test tutors. There are test tutors that are $1,500/hour.
Like anything, buyer beware when selecting an IEC. Rely on personal referrals, not marketing. Make sure the IEC is a member of reputable organizations such as NACAC, IECA, HECA, etc. Ethical IECs do not write students essays, do their apps for them, or guarantee access to any college.
