So, I poured my heart and soul into writing an essay for the VIP app for Drexel, only to find that the max number of words is 500. I'm over the limit by about 83, after cutting out quite a bit of information. I can't seem to shorten it anymore as it would interrupt the flow of my essay. Is this bad?

The idea is to be concise about your thoughts. It is a good trait to possess. Have others read the essay to help you cut out what may seem important to you, though not to the process. Good luck.

83 is quite a bit, but I would say that going a few over the limit (if it allows you to submit it) would not be too bad. Try reading through the essay a few more times, and get the input of others. If you can cut it down to just 40-50 over the limit, I think you would do well. If not, submit it as is and hope for the best. If the essay is written extremely well, they may not even notice!

My advice is re-doing it, not entirely, I mean re-writing it and that will give you another perspective of what you can delete.

my essay is a WHOLE lot longer than yours. i applied using the common app and i saw on the supplement that the cut off was 500 words. i called the admissions office and told them my essay was quite a bit longer than that and they said to just submit it because i obviously worked very hard on it. so i think you should be okay
btw, calling admissions really does help a lot!
