Admissions Notification by email, website, letter?

How do most LAC's and universities notify RD students when they are admitted, rejected, etc?

Do they ususally send an email telling them to check their status on-line?
Or, if it's a school that notifies students through the regular mail, do they first send an email telling them to expect a letter or a packet soon?

April 1 seems to be the near universal admissions notification date, but are there LAC's that actually let students know before that?

I got into CU boulder, U of Toronto, and Utah so far. None of them sent me an email saying I got in. I had to check my status on their online check thingy.

But U of T did FedEx my acceptance letter; I got an email from FedEx the day after my decision came out saying that I will be receiving a package from them shortly.

So yeah, I'm guessing some schools email you, others first by online-status then by mail.

I don't think we can say what "most" do. My d applied to 8 schools. Only 1 told her via the on-line system. Seven were snail mail only. You have to ask the specific schools.

some colleges do e-mail, some online checking, some only snail mail. ex: harvard does e-mail, yale+princeton do online checking. if u decide to count likely letters as admissions decisions, those r usually snail mail but occassionally e-mail.

UChicago posts the decision letter on the Uncommon Application page and sends you an email notifying you of the availability of the decision. The decision itself, however, is not sent.
