how is it done? 5 people sit around ur stuff and 20 minutes later say “accepted” or “rejected”? or what?

They set up two large boxes on one side of the room marked "Accepted" and "Rejected." They then stand on the other side of the room, fold each application into a paper airplane and project it across the room. Your fate is decided by which box it lands in and, if it misses both, you are waitlisted.

There are books and newspaper articles detailing the admissions process at various types of schools. Trying using a search engine to find them.

Don't quote me on this, but I think two people read each application, and they give ratings from 1-5 or something on test scores, GPA, academics, recommendations, extra-cirriculars, etc... and they add up the scores.
In the beginning, they put the applications to a no, maybe, and yes pile, and maybe narrow it down later during a committee where they talk about all the canidates, and then they vote... something along those lines.
I know, it's a scary thought... admission officers talking about you and judging you.

LOL drusba, that made my day!

According to The Gatekeepers, 2 officers take 20 minutes to read your application on their own time. The committee gives you 5 minutes.
