Admissions question

Hi Everyone

Does anyone know how much pull a trustee emeritus at Notre Dame could have in an admissions decision. Recently, I met with one, whose a family friend, and he said he would make a few phone calls and write a letter of recommendation. I have great grades and scores, but I don’t know if without the connection I would be accepted or deferred. How much weight could these phone calls/letters of rec hold?

Any response is appreciated.

Thanks

Just went through the process with the son of good friends. He is a strong student, student leader and varsity athlete and they pulled any connections they had available and for the most part, he ended up with a lot of wait list decisions. He was applying Ivy/little Ivy and top 20s. The people in position in my alma mater noted the process has become so competitive that even strong applicants with key connections were being (courtesy) wait listed or denied. My friend’s son even had a top donor of a major university put in a plug and all he got was wait listed. So a trustee emeritus at ND could have an impact but you have to be completely competitive on your own.

Ya thats what I had thought, I think that as of right now I would be a pretty competitive applicant at ND, however, I hope that my connection can provide me with a little extra “push” through admissions or perhaps move my name from the deferred pile to the accepted pile

At worst, it will hopefully get your file a closer look and your awesomeness will astound them.
