<p>I was looking around in Collegeboard and it says that UIUC has a 65% admit rate while UMich has a 47%.... are these numbers anywhere close to correct? they seem to be a bit high?</p>

<p>The goal of the midwest state schools was not to become elite but to offer an opportunity for an elite education to as many state residents as possible. With growth this goal has been compromised because going much over 30,000 ug students is just too big. Do they had to get more selective.</p>
<p>Those admit rates are generally correct but vary somewhat from year to year. They can also vary among the colleges at the particular university, e.g., UIUC's overall admit rate is close to 65% but for business college it is closer to 45%.</p>
