Admissions supplements?

If you are not intending to major in music (maybe minor) but want to be very active in campus music/marching band/jazz band..is a supplement DVD something that UNC would consider? Does it help ? (OOS with 4.25 gpa, 2030 sat) Thanks!

I don’t think that’s really necessary, unless you were auditioning for the music program as a major. Which you wouldn’t need to do until you were already admitted and on campus, anyway. Just include marching band/etc. in your ECs.

Not necessary I understand but would short CD/DVD be something they would look at in admissions or music dept, or would it just be discarded? I guess I will have to contact the music dept and admissions directly to ask.

yeah, I am not majoring in music, but I do plan to be highly involved in any of the bands. For Marching Band, you don’t even need an audition to get in, let alone a supplement. I really didn’t read anything about supplements, just that the first week of school, they will be doing auditions for the other bands, such as concert band, wind ensemble, etc. :)

I guess I am not making my self clear, sorry. I know that any audition is not required for entrance to the marching band - but some colleges might use additional stuff in addition to essays to consider your application to the college…(like athletes submit dvds of their performances to try to get coaches to be interested in their application - might help those kids who might not otherwise get in on their records). I know music majors are asked to submit a CD, but my question is whether non-music majors can also, and whether that will be considered or not.

We are OOS and while my ds has a great record, it might not be good enough to get into UNC and this is his #1 choice. Guess he will just have to call admissions and ask.

I believe Non-music majors shouldn’t, but you can, but be prepared not to get it sent back to you, as with other supplements. I would contact the admissions office and ask whether they take supplements into consideration for admission. They can give a definite answer. :)

I emailed them about a poetry supplement to my app and they pretty much said, “send it if you want, but we definitely won’t consider it.” I don’t know how true that is, but that’s what they told me. I didn’t send anything in, but I wrote my essay about my passion for poetry. they will be interested if you can prove that you’re passionate about something
