Admissions to PhD program in CS (GRE scores)

Hello everyone,

I just took the GRE and was a little unhappy about the scores that I received, a 159 in quantitative (750 on old scale - 77 percentile) and a 156 in verbal (540-550 - 69 percentile). I'm planning on applying to the PhD program in mid-tier schools for computer science, such as Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State, and North Carolina State; so top-tier schools such as MIT or Stanford are of no concern for me. I have a 3.45 undergraduate GPA with a 3.96 major GPA and should have fairly strong recommendation letters from a few of my professors, since I have been working on research projects with them and they seem to be pretty impressed with my ideas and progress. So basically my question is, do you think my mediocre GRE scores will hurt my chances for admissions into the PhD programs at these mid-tier schools? Should I retake the GRE to try to raise my scores? Or do you think my GPA and recommendation letters should offset these scores?

Thanks to everyone in advance,
- Concerned CS Undergrad
