admissions

i'm sure this has been asked before but it wasnt in the stickied thread at the top or in any searches i did so here goes:

do grad programs interview? i'm asking specifically in terms of engineering programs and pretty much the smaller ones (ie not big state schools like UMich, VTech, etc)

if they do, is it like undergrad where they will have an alumni do it or will they ask you to go to the school or will they send a rep to you if you are far away?

thanks for the help

Interviewing is usually a field-specific thing. For example, almost all science programs interview -- a selected group of applicants is brought to campus for a weekend which is partly recruitment and partly interviewing.

I think most of my engineering friends only went to recruitment weekends after they were accepted, and did not have to interview prior to acceptance.

When a field does interviews, generally the students come to the school for the weekend and are interviewed by faculty members in the program to which they are applying. In many cases, the schools pay for all costs associated with this visit (plane tickets, hotels, food), although in some cases students must pay.

I know the established top 10 or so schools do interviews

thanks for the responces :)
