Sorry to be so defensive, pebbles; it was definitely just my own insecurities speaking. And, logically, I'm fully aware of the arbitrariosity :) of the process; just psychologically (and pridefully) I can't quite seem to reconcile yet. Thanks for your good sense and refusal to cater to my emotions--good luck to you too!

If I sent my application to a school twice, one of me would be accepted and one of me would be rejected. Then I wouldn't know what to do.

now that'd be funny.

haha - that'd actually be entirely possible... nice social experiment

That's nothing!!

I know someone who got into Harvard and was rejected at SUNY Geneseo and Hamilton College. Admissions boards are looking for that special something, and it's a very subjective process.

Also they're protecting their yield rates if they suspect that your friend will end up going to harvard (Wash U in St. Louis does that a lot)

StPlayrXtreme didn't you revive that other old topic too?

"Both schools, and all great schools, actually, are looking for the same things in an applicant, but Columbia and Harvard still have their differences in what they're looking for."-afaforce
Wonderful quote. Reminiscent of our President, don'tcha think? They're both looking for the same things, but their looking for different things. That is, different things...that are the same. That is to say, these same things are markedly different, and in being different, are undeniably the same.
No personal offense though--I know what you mean. I just thought it was funny.

I was accepted by Cornell & UPenn, and waitlisted by Columbia, Yale, & Princeton. Princeton is my top choice, and the school that I am in love with.. is it practical to pursue admission to Princeton further, or should I decide among the schools I was accepted to and forget about it? I read several articles stating that Princeton will rely heavily on its waitlist this year because of the elimination of Early Decision. Anyone have any ideas or opinions?

Something weirder (this happened to me):

Accepted to Harvard
Rejected by Williams

:S

Franklin, that actually seems like the greatest or the absolutely dumbest idea ever. Too bad I don't have a HYPS acceptance letter. Only this stupid UNC one.

Status Quo: Admitted to Harvard, not admitted to Columbia
Possible upside: Also get admitted to Columbia
Possible downside: Still not admitted to Columbia

Seems low-risk to me!
