What's the likelihood of Columbia resorting to the waitlist this year?

tell them you'll absolutely go if they accept you and why they should accept you and your chances will be better

I have a question..

Does anyone know or have an idea of how many people have been waitlisted?

I got waitlisted as well.

i got into Harvard,Yale and MIT... and waitlisted at Columbia... man is admissions random.

According to Princeton Review 2004 ED, there were 600 on the waitlist. So it shoudl be just about that amount this year, maybe a few more. Seems like half have been on this site.

They resort to the waitlist every year, but with more than 600 on it, the chances aren't that good, by percentages and by the much more difficult competition. According to their website, they have accepted less than 10 some years and more than 100 other years. Since they only siad less than 10 and not "none", then I'm guessign they've always used it.

they won't necessarily use it... but only time will tell.

I'll just take a spot and see what happenes.

Yesterday I was really happy about not being flat-out rejected, but now I'm seething. Eh, my emotions are irrational at this point.

i kind of agree. i was kind of relieved taht i wasn't rejected, but also angry that i wasn't accepted. now i'll have to settle to love another school. :-/

seeing how most top schools had record low acceptance rates this year, chances of coming off the wait list are not good at all.
i was waitlisted. at all of my top 3 schools. w. t. f.
yes, i'm bitter.

They still accepted the same number of people as any other year. The low rates are because of more applicants which usually occurred because of promotional activity. We still have a chance.

Yeah, hopefully. But as mekrob pointed out, last year there were 600 people on the waitlist, all quite competitive. If they accept 10 or so... ouch. My chances will be better if they accept like upwards of 300.

300 off the waitlist? now that would be nice. :D

Let's persuade everybody on CC who got accepted to CU to not go. Then we might get pulled off the waitlist.

Yes, let's.

But I also saw some people's stats where they were waitlisted at Columbia but got into places like Dartmouth, etc. Persuade them to go elsewhere and give us desperate ones a chance.

If they accept you off the waitlist, do you have to go?

I know that sounds like a stupid question, since the whole point of being on a waitlist is because you still want to go to the college. But I mean, now I want to go, but come May, when I've already gotten my housing chosen at UCLA or Cal or Pomona and met with my future classmates and started wearing my school's paraphenalia, I might not accept that offer of admissions.

So is there anything binding by being on the waitlist?

no an acceptance from the waiting list is not binding

It seems like so few on the waitlist would actually end up going because there are 1500 at are offered a spot on the list (from someone on College Admissions: waitlisted and statistical chances of getting in), but then so many get accepted to HYPS and such schools (as has happened much on here), and then even if you got accepted, you've already sent in your housing and other fees for another school. Is there anybody here who would go to CU if accepted for sure (unless hindered by finances of course)? It would all depend on when I was accepted for me. May 15, good chance. June 1st, well...still an acceptance to Ivy League.

I got waitlisted, and I would most definitely drop everything at some other college to go to Columbia
