Anyone going to the admitted student reception in your area?

D2, DH and I are considering attending the one in Los Angeles. Is the purpose of these receptions to convince RD admits to attend Amherst? Are ED admits attending?

When my son was admitted to Amherst ED last year we didn’t attend the reception because the nearest one was a 6 hour drive, but we would have if it was nearby. For ED students there’s really no practical point since there’s no deliberation or decision-making going on as to whether to enroll, but if it’s easy to go I think it can be fun and part of the run-up to going in the fall.

There’s a reception of that kind this year for the school my daughter will be attending in next fall. She already knows she’ll be going to that school and has paid her deposit and all, but the reception is right here in town and she wants to go just the same. What the heck? :)

If there’s a reception, then there will definitely be kids attending.

I see it as a great way to meet your fellow classmates in advance, make friends and find common ground early on.

Besides your D meeting other students, you and your H will meet the other parents that you will see in LA every year to watch the Amherst/Williams football game!

How do we rsvp to the reception?

Tells about the receptions and how to RSVP.

Thanks. Do parents generally go too, or is this mainly for the students?

Parents and students can attend — whoever wants to go.
