Does that mean she is only excpeted for the summer? She is so confused.

Dear ****,

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Michigan is in the final stages of reviewing and making final decisions on freshman applications submitted. This year's applicant pool is, again, one of the most competitive we have ever had; therefore, space is extremely limited for Fall admission.

Please be advised that you will be admitted for the Summer term 2009, provided that you submit a letter authorizing our office to update your application for the Summer review. The letter must be sent directly from you within five (5) days of receipt of this notice, and must include the specific request that your application be updated for review for the Summer term. Please fax the letter to 734-647-8759, or forward your request via email to tsz@umich.edu and copy skkuhn@umich.edu.

Freshman orientation dates for the Summer term are June 24-26, with classes beginning on June 29 and ending August 14, 2009.

We look forward to your timely response to our offer of Summer 2009 admission.

Sincerely,

Ted Spencer
Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director

SUMMER TERM

WHAT IS SUMMER TERM?
Summer term is limited to a select group of students each year. Students enrolled in Summer term have an excellent opportunity to strengthen their academic skills, develop a peer support network and familiarize themselves with the campus and its resources. A variety of course offerings are available to Summer term students that are credit-bearing, academically rigorous courses and become part of the student’s official University of Michigan transcript. Students are assigned an academic advisor who will serve as their permanent advisor providing guidance on course selection for both Summer and Fall terms, career planning, and progress towards fulfilling degree requirements.

WHY WAS I ADMITTED TO SUMMER TERM?
The University of Michigan is a large, major research university with many of its schools and departments among the best in the country and world. It is a challenging, competitive, higher educational institution which has admitted some of the most talented and intellectually gifted students from all over the world. Staff from the University of Michigan Office of Undergraduate Admissions make determinations for Summer term based on their review of a wide range of variables including GPA, test scores, grades in college preparatory courses, writing samples and letters of recommendation.

HOW WILL I BENEFIT FROM SUMMER TERM?
Summer term allows you to begin your college education in a constructive academic environment. Your enrollment in Summer term also allows you to familiarize yourself with the campus and identify offices which can provide you with necessary campus resources. In addition, you can be housed in the same residence hall with all of the other University of Michigan students enrolled during the Summer, if you desire. Moreover, a successful student enrolled in Summer term can typically earn between 6-8 credit hours towards graduation.

DO I NEED TO BE RE-EVALUATED FOR FALL TERM?
No. Once admitted to Summer term and enrolled in classes, your enrollment carries over to the Fall term. You will register for your Fall term classes at the same time you register for your Summer term classes.

Freshman orientation dates for the 2009 Summer term are June 24 - 26
with classes beginning Monday, June 29 and ending Friday, August 14

Another way for UMich to make megabucks from OOS students…how much does it cost?

I honestly don’t know. I got waitlisted. My friend was the one who was accepted for summer. But ya it really is a way for them to make more money

did she/he get the email today?

Ya she got it yesterday.

^^what were her stats?

My friend just called me and said she got the same email.

Uhh honestly not too sure. 3.9 W GPA (3.4 UW) and about a 1900 SAT, 28 ACT would be my guess.

Ohh also an EDIT: Her dad is a big deal in the Arab world and is a pretty known figure there. He got the king or prince of Qatar to write her a recommendation the beginning of the month. I’m sure that has a great deal to do with why she was accepted when her stats are not all that great compared to other Michigan applicants. But still, I have yet to hear of ANYONE (other than uofm33’s friend) who got into Summer. I think it’s based highly on recommendations…?

yea my friend said the same thing. One of her uncles was a former dean or something at umich, and she got him to write a letter. So I think that had somethign to do with it. Her stats weren’t that great either compared to other students…3.7 and I think a 28.

Wow a 28 on the ACT is kind of low, not sure if a 3.7 in your school is considered good or bad…in my school we usually have to work our butts of do get decent grades (its the IB system, considerably more difficult than regular systems, and also more difficult than AP, for instance AP Micro/Macro Economics and AP Calculus AB is laughably easy compared to IB HL Economics and IB HL Mathematics). Although I guess that why we also have WGPA (weighted) where they add .5 on top of the GPA if you take 3HL and 3SL courses.

In our school I would say 3.7 is considered slightly above average…

and yes 28 in low for UMich.

well the 3.7 is weighted…it would be slighlty lower for a UM unweighted gpa…about 3.5/3.6 ish. She also took only 3 APs
