Given: a premed who, for various reasons, should wait until at least senior year to apply to med school.

This means that there will be a gap year after graduation from college and before (possible) matriculation into med school.

Would it be worth pursuing a master's degree in the gap year? After all, medical school is far from a guarantee, and a master's degree would boost career prospects in the aftermath in the face of med school rejections.

What I'm wondering is what medical schools would think of a master's degree. Would it boost the applicant at all? Would it seem like the applicant has a lesser interest in medicine? Would it depend on the field in which the degree was obtained? Or would it make no difference at all?
