Advantage of Geographical diversity

I read that certain NE colleges want more southerners to improve their geographical diversity, Which colleges may see being from Texas as a plus?

I think Texas is plus only for in-state publics. Texas, like California and New York simply has too many kids applying out of state for it be be a particularly desirable demographic.

I heard that said at an admissions talk at Macalester. They were encouraging kids from the South, but they meant like Alabama and Mississippi.

I suspect it would have the biggest effect at small private schools ranked outside the top 20-30.
Look at Dickinson,Skidmore, or Gettysburg for example:

The more selective NESCAC colleges get a few more Texans:

Or Lehigh, Lafayette, Bucknell.

Or move to Oklahoma:).

Texas is kind of like California…lots of people and many students who want to get out. It’s not Mississippi or South Carolina.

Texas, like California, is a very populated state with plenty of very wealthy areas. Unlike California, Texas has a near total lack of great liberal arts colleges (Austin and Southwestern just do not compare to CMC or many of the NESAC institutions). As a result, a fair number of students look OOS, especially if they want a smaller college experience.
